We’ve spent some time recently talking about anemia and bleeding disorders. Not only for my own personal history with it, but also because it is a condition that is becoming more prevalent and there are many who are unaware that they are anemic. I wanted to leave you with some important thoughts and information on anemia and bleeding disorders, and some of the natural methods I have used to help support my own anemia diagnosis.
Anemia is a condition in which the body produces fewer red blood cells than needed to maintain optimal health. It is often caused by a deficiency of essential vitamins and minerals, such as iron, Vitamin B12 and folic acid.
Bleeding disorders, on the other hand, are conditions that affect the body’s ability to form blood clots which can cause excessive bleeding. These disorders may be caused by a variety of factors including genetics, medications, and certain medical conditions.
While these health problems can be challenging, I supported my conventional medical treatment for it with some simple and natural methods as well.
- Eat a balanced and nutritious diet.
One of the main underlying causes of anemia is iron deficiency. Eating iron-rich foods such as dark leafy greens, lean red meat, lentils, beans, and fortified cereals can help to replenish the body’s iron levels. It is also important to eat food sources that are rich in Vitamin B12, such as fish, beef, and poultry. Including foods such as leafy greens, oranges, and avocados that are rich in folate in your diet can help with anemia as well. A healthy diet can also help lead to better blood flow and pressure which can aid with bleeding disorders. - Take natural supplements.
Natural supplements can provide an effective way to get the essential nutrients that the body needs to overcome anemia and bleeding disorders. Supplements such as Iron, Vitamin B12, and folate can be a helpful option for people who do not get enough nutrients from their diet. Vitamin C, too, helps in efficient absorption of iron from the diet. - Manage stress.
Stress can negatively impact the body’s immune system, disrupt hormonal balance, and increase inflammation. These effects can exacerbate symptoms associated with anemia and bleeding disorders. Practices such as meditation, yoga, and deep breathing can help to reduce stress and lead to more favorable health outcomes. - Exercise regularly.
Regular exercise can help to improve blood flow, increase the production of red blood cells, and support overall cardiovascular health. This can help to mitigate symptoms associated with anemia and bleeding disorders. Activities that are easy on the joints such as swimming, walking or biking can be an effective way to get exercise without risking injury. - Manage your medications.
Certain medications can negatively affect the body’s ability to form blood clots, such as aspirin and warfarin. It’s important for people who are experiencing bleeding disorders to be aware of the medications they take and to follow their doctor’s instructions carefully.
Addressing anemia and bleeding disorders through a natural approach offers a complimentary way to manage and improve symptoms. Eating a nutritious diet, taking appropriate supplements, managing stress, regularly exercising, and understanding your medications are all helpful ways to support optimal health outcomes for individuals dealing with these conditions.
Anemia is a serious condition, and can have varying degrees of severity. Please make sure you are working with a licensed healthcare professional to address the underlying cause of the anemia, and any other steps necessary to treat it.
